Exploring Reiki As A Healing Modality

Reiki therapy is based on the concept of universal life force energy, which flows through all living things. When this energy is disrupted or blocked, it can lead to physical, emotional, and spiritual imbalances. Reiki is designed to help remove blockages and restore balance to the body’s energy systems. It is a holistic approach to help facilitate balance and healing, while also harmonizing all aspects of the individual’s body mind and spirit. It can also help encourage personal and spiritual growth.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a type of holistic therapy that was based on the Eastern concept of energy flow via the body’s seven primary chakras. These chakra serve as the energy centers which are the focal points for Reiki therapy.  Reiki was invented and formulated by well-known Japanese healing teachers. The most influential among them is Mikao Usui, a Buddhist monk who began incorporating traditional Reiki techniques with meditation, beliefs, and symbols to help others heal and find spiritual enlightenment in 1980. The processes of this therapy are very distinctive compared to other forms of alternative meditation. Reiki meditation normally concentrates on self-healing, concentration, the five spiritual principles, and the accreditation of the healers through a process of initiation. There are varying levels of Reiki accreditations. Reiki therapy, also known as energy healing, promotes healing and balance in the body by activating the natural healing processes of the body to restore physical and emotional well-being. Reiki is practiced worldwide, with many  people using it to help manage stress, anxiety, pain, and other conditions.

What are the primary principles of Reiki?

The main purpose of this therapy is to be able to heal emotional and spiritual flow by balancing the body’s energy systems. The other sub-purpose of this therapy is to gain physical stamina and resistance from the pain. This therapy can also transmit the flow of universal life energy called ki in Japanese (similar to the Chinese concept of chi). Most of the Reiki therapy teachers believe that ki flows through the universe, and the therapy connects the energy to the human body. Reiki can be used to heal people, including children, as well as, animals. The practice of self-healing by the Reiki healers is done through the placement of their hand in a traditional position, stimulating their own body energy. Reiki can also be practiced in 1:1 and  group settings. In distance or absence reiki healing, the practitioner visualizes the patient and their condition through a particular Reiki symbol.

How is Reiki administered?
Reiki is a safe and  non-invasive. Reiki therapy involves the  Reiki healers placing their hands over different parts of the body, from head to feet to identify and remove blockages. It can be administered to you while seated or reclined. Most will typically feel a warm, soothing sensation but may also experience tingling and occasional involuntary jerks in the body. It is not uncommon to fall asleep during a Reiki session.
